The 2017 China Global ThinkTank Innovation Summit will be held between June 22 and June 24, 2017, inQingdao, China. The conference features the increasingly important role thinktanks play in an era of changing politics both at home and abroad. Governmentsacross the globe are facing the challenges posed by a stagnant world economy,geopolitical uncertainties, and the rising de-globalization sentimentsworldwide. Many pressing issues require innovative solutions based ontransnational, cross-industry, inter-disciplinary governance capacity and expertise.The summit will tap into the regional and global perspectives and experiencesof leading think tanks around the world to understand the de-globalizationtendencies and explore ways in which think tanks can positively contribute toglobal governance, public diplomacy, and globalization discourse. The conferencewill explore a carefully selected set of policy and organizational challengescurrently facing think tanks in China and other regions of the world and willprovide strategies and policy recommendations to address them.
Qingdao is a coastal citylocated in eastern China and a major metropolis that rivals Shanghai andBeijing with charm, blue skies and convenience. It is also a popular touristdestination, boasting marine sceneries, world-class resorts, a port of sailingboats, and a globally celebrated brand of Chinese beer – Tsingtao and thefestivals revolving around it. The government of Qingdao has incorporated thinktanks into its development strategy with its aspirations for the city to becomeChina’s “think tank valley.”
Attendees will arrive onJune 22 (Thu.). Group local tours and sightseeing activities will be arrangedon June 23 (Fri.) to allow attendees to explore the charm of a beach city. Theconference is scheduled on June 24 (Sat.).
Complementaryfood and lodging (3-nights at Qingdao Shangri-La hotel) will be provided forthe regional (outside China) and international participants and speakers.
Qingdao is a short flight (approx.1 hour and 40 min.) from Shanghai or (approx. 1 hour and 20 min.) from Beijing.There are also high-speed rail routes between Shanghai (Hongqiaoairport/railway station) and Qingdao (approx. 7 hours ride) and between Beijingand Qingdao (approx. 5 hours ride plus 1 hour taxi ride from the airport toBeijing South Railway Station).
